Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya) taxi & cab service at fixed prices
Taxi from Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya) from $35 (Rs 11,000) per vehicle, not per person
Adam’s Peak, Sri Pada, is the sacred mountain of Sri Lanka, 2,243 metres high, with a footprint-shaped mark on its summit revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Every pilgrimage season, thousands climb it through the night to watch the sun rise from the top. The usual start is Dalhousie, also called Nallathanniya, a village at the foot of the path: that is where our transfers go, and where the car stops. From there the climb is on foot, about 5,500 steps. Our taxi service takes you to Dalhousie and back at a fixed price for the whole vehicle, economy or comfort sedan, six-seat or eight-seat van, with driver, fuel, tolls and parking included. You book and pay the full price online by card, so there is nothing to hand the driver on the day; if you prefer, pay 50% online and the rest in cash to the driver, an option that costs 10% more. Dalhousie to Hatton is 30 km, about 1 h, from $35 (Rs 11,000); to Colombo Airport it is 135 km, about 3 h 20, from $75 (Rs 23,500).

Half-day and day trips from Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya) that travellers book again and again, with the drive time and the fixed price per car. Swipe through, pick one, and book the ride.
Prices are per vehicle and fixed before you book. For several stops in one day with the car waiting for you, a driver for the day is usually simpler.
Private taxi, tuk-tuk, ride-hailing app or train in Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya)?
There is no railway station at Dalhousie. The nearest is Hatton, on the hill-country main line, and many climbers arrive there by train from Kandy, Colombo or Ella. From Hatton, buses run to Dalhousie during the pilgrimage season, and tuk-tuks make the trip at any hour; agree the fare first, and expect a long, cold ride in an open tuk-tuk at night. Outside the season buses are fewer. Some long-distance buses also run straight to Dalhousie in season, crowded with pilgrims on Poya weekends.
PickMe and Uber are practically absent in this part of the hills, so do not count on an app cab to reach the trailhead or to take you away afterwards. A pre-booked transfer is the calm option: the price is agreed in advance, the driver knows the road to Dalhousie in the dark, and for the return after the climb you have a car booked rather than a queue for a bus with tired legs. If you are travelling alone with little luggage and staying in Dalhousie, the bus or a tuk-tuk from Hatton is the cheapest way in.

Where we pick up in Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya)
In Dalhousie we collect from your guesthouse or from the village near the start of the path, where vehicles stop. Most guesthouses are on the road or a short walk from it; give us the name and we find it. For hotels in Maskeliya or around the Maussakelle reservoir, type the hotel name in the booking form: the fixed price is calculated on the road distance and shown before you pay. Hatton hotels book from Hatton: from Hatton to Dalhousie is $35 (Rs 11,000). For the return after the climb, you choose a pickup time with a margin: most people are back down by mid-morning, but crowds and tired knees vary. Fifteen minutes of waiting are included at every pickup, and the driver’s name and number reach you on WhatsApp, so you can message him if the descent takes longer. At Colombo Airport, 60 minutes of waiting are included and we track your flight.
Getting to and from Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya)
Dalhousie sits at the end of a narrow road that leaves Hatton, runs through Maskeliya and along the Maussakelle reservoir, then climbs to the village. Hatton is 30 km, about 1 h. Nuwara Eliya is 70 km, about 2 h 15, and Horton Plains 80 km, about 2 h 30. Kitulgala, on the A7 towards Colombo, is 50 km, about 1 h 40. Colombo Airport is 135 km, about 3 h 20 by Hatton, Ginigathena and Avissawella. Ratnapura is 70 km, about 2 h 15, and Sinharaja 120 km, about 3 h 40; there is also a much longer path up the mountain from the Ratnapura side, but our Adam’s Peak transfers always go to Dalhousie. Mattala airport is 160 km, about 3 h 55. On busy nights in season, especially Poya weekends, traffic backs up on the last stretch into the village; allow extra time.
Travel tips for Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya)
The pilgrimage season runs roughly from the full moon of December, Unduvap Poya, to Vesak in May. In season the path is lit, stalls are open and the summit shrine is active; outside it, the weather is wet and windy, many stalls close, the lights may not be on and leeches come out on the path. People still climb then, but take a torch and ask locally. Most climbers start around 02:00 and take three to four hours up; the descent is hard on the knees. Weekends and Poya days in season are the busiest, with long queues on the upper stairs: go midweek if you can. The summit is cold before dawn, so bring a warm layer, a hat and dry socks.
On the price, be clear: a pickup between 22:00 and 05:00 carries a 15% night surcharge, shown before you pay. If you sleep in Hatton or Maskeliya and are driven to Dalhousie in the night, it applies; if you sleep in Dalhousie and walk from your guesthouse, you need no night transfer at all. Between 15 December and 15 January a 10% high-season supplement applies, and booking more than 14 days ahead takes 5% off.
About Adam's Peak (Nallathanniya)
The climb is the experience. In season the path is lit and lined with tea stalls that stay open all night, and pilgrims of every age walk it together, some of them elderly, some carrying children. The steps get steeper towards the top, and the last part is a long staircase with railings. At the summit stands the shrine around the sacred footprint, and the bell that pilgrims ring once for each climb they have made. Reach the top before dawn, find a place facing east and wait: the sun rises over the hills, and just after sunrise the peak casts its triangular shadow on the clouds to the west.
Near the start of the path stands a Japanese Peace Pagoda, white against the forest. The countryside around Dalhousie is tea country, with the Maussakelle and Castlereagh reservoirs on the road towards Hatton, and waterfalls such as Laxapana and Aberdeen in the valleys around Norton Bridge. Horton Plains and Nuwara Eliya are within a morning’s drive for the days after the climb.
