Pasikuda taxi & cab service at fixed prices
Taxi from Pasikuda from $35 (Rs 11,000) per vehicle, not per person
Pasikuda, also spelt Pasikudah, is a wide bay on the east coast where a reef keeps the water shallow and calm, so you can wade out a long way and still stand. A line of resort hotels faces the bay, and Kalkudah, a longer and emptier beach, runs south from the next headland. It is a long way from Colombo, which is part of its appeal and the reason most guests arrive by car from the cultural triangle. Every taxi and transfer from Pasikuda has a fixed price for the whole vehicle: an economy sedan for up to three people, a comfort sedan for four, or a six- or eight-seat van, with driver, fuel, tolls and parking included. You pay the full price online by card when you book, so there is nothing left to pay the driver when you reach the east coast; if you prefer, you can pay 50% online and the rest in cash to the driver, an option that costs 10% more. Pasikuda to Batticaloa is 35 km, about 55 min, from $35 (Rs 11,000). Pasikuda to Sigiriya is 120 km, about 2 h 40, from $70 (Rs 21,000), and Colombo Airport is 265 km, about 5 h 45, from $160 (Rs 50,500).

Things to do by taxi around Pasikuda
Half-day and day trips from Pasikuda that travellers book again and again, with the drive time and the fixed price per car. Swipe through, pick one, and book the ride.
Prices are per vehicle and fixed before you book. For several stops in one day with the car waiting for you, a driver for the day is usually simpler.
Private taxi, tuk-tuk, ride-hailing app or train in Pasikuda?
Around the bay, tuk-tuks are the everyday cab service. They wait at the resort road and in Valaichchenai, the market town just inland, and a ride to Kalkudah or into town is short; agree the fare before you set off. PickMe and Uber are weak or absent here: you may find the odd PickMe tuk-tuk, rarely a car, and nobody on an app will take you to the airport or Sigiriya at a fixed price.
Pasikuda itself has no railway station, but Valaichchenai, a few kilometres inland, is on the Batticaloa line, with trains towards Polonnaruwa and Colombo Fort, including an overnight service. The train is cheap and slow, it ends in central Colombo rather than at the airport, and you still need a tuk-tuk to and from the station. Buses run from Valaichchenai along the coast to Batticaloa and Trincomalee and west through Polonnaruwa; for Sigiriya you change at Habarana, and with luggage in the heat that takes most of a day. Domestic flights are not a practical option for this trip. For a resort holiday with suitcases, a car door to door is what most visitors choose, and with a fixed price you know the cost before you arrive.

Where we pick up in Pasikuda
We collect from every resort on the Pasikuda bay road, from the hotels and guesthouses at Kalkudah and from Valaichchenai, including the railway station and the bus stand. Give us the exact hotel name when you book: the resorts sit side by side behind the bay, each with its own gate, and the driver comes to your reception rather than waiting on the main road. Some smaller guesthouses at Kalkudah are down sand tracks, and the name is what gets the car to the right door. For guests landing at Colombo Airport, the driver meets you in arrivals with a name board; we follow your flight and include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. The airport to Pasikuda costs $160 (Rs 50,500). Everywhere else, 15 minutes of waiting are included. You receive the driver’s name, phone number and vehicle on WhatsApp before pickup. A family with a lot of luggage fits better in a six-seat van, and a group of up to eight travels together in the eight-seat van; tell us about pushchairs or sports gear when booking.
Getting to and from Pasikuda
The bay is small: the resorts share one access road behind the beach, Kalkudah is a few minutes south, and Valaichchenai, with its shops, bank branches, station and bus stand, is a short hop inland. Batticaloa, the main town of the east, is 35 km south on the A15 coast road, about 55 min. The same A15 heads north across a string of lagoon bridges to Trincomalee, 105 km and about 2 h 25. West, the A11 crosses the Mahaweli river at Manampitiya and reaches Polonnaruwa, 75 km and about 1 h 45, then continues past Minneriya (95 km, 2 h 10) to Habarana, the junction for Sigiriya (120 km, 2 h 40) and Dambulla (135 km, 3 h). Matale, on the road towards Kandy, is 165 km and about 3 h 40. Colombo Airport is the long transfer: 265 km and about 5 h 45, through Polonnaruwa, Habarana, Dambulla and Kurunegala. Arugam Bay lies further down the coast beyond Batticaloa.
Travel tips for Pasikuda
Pasikuda follows the east-coast calendar, the opposite of the south-west beaches. The best months run roughly from April to September: dry, sunny and a sea like a lake. From about November to February the north-east monsoon brings heavy rain and rougher water, and some resorts close for part of that period. If your trip is in July or August, when the south coast is choppy, Pasikuda is a good choice for the beach days. Plan the arrival rather than improvising it: from Colombo it is 5 h 45, so most people break the journey at Sigiriya or Polonnaruwa. On the A11 near Polonnaruwa and Minneriya, wild elephants sometimes stand at the roadside, especially at dusk, and daylight driving is safer. A 15% night surcharge applies to pickups between 22:00 and 05:00, a 10% high-season supplement from 15 December to 15 January, and bookings made more than 14 days ahead cost 5% less; all of it is shown before you pay. To see Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa and Minneriya with one driver over several days, book our car hire with driver on /private-driver. Extra stops on a transfer are arranged on WhatsApp after booking.
About Pasikuda
The bay is the attraction. Its reef breaks the waves well offshore, so the water inside stays shallow, warm and clear for a long way out, which makes Pasikuda unusually easy for children and for anyone who does not swim with confidence. At low tide you can walk out towards the reef; at the edge, local boatmen offer snorkelling trips, paid directly to them. Kalkudah, just south, is the wilder beach: longer, with more open water and very few buildings, good for a walk at sunrise, since both beaches face east. Weekends bring local families to the public part of the bay, which is lively without being crowded.
Beyond the beach, Batticaloa is an easy half day: the Dutch fort on its lagoon, the bridge at Kallady and the lighthouse where the lagoon meets the sea. Polonnaruwa, with its royal palace, Sacred Quadrangle and the carved Buddhas of Gal Vihara, is close enough for a full day trip and more interesting at opening time. Minneriya National Park, where elephants gather around the reservoir in the dry months, is on the same road; jeeps and park tickets are paid at the gate, and we drop you there.
